Raphael Warnock wins US Senate seat in Georgia, USA

Update: Democrat Jon Ossof defeated Republican David Perdue. The Democrats now have majority votes in the Senate of the United States Congress.

The battle for two Senates seats in the US state of Georgia has been hot. Members of the Democratic and Republican parties canvassed the state for support from voters.

Donald Trump also went to Georgia to rally members of the Republican party.

But, today it was the hard work of Raphael Warnock’s team that secured a win for the Democrats. This is significant.

Warnock is now the first Black Senator in the state of Georgia.

His win pushes Democrats a step closer to clinching dominant influence of the Senate, an arm of the US government.

Stacey Abrams also worked tirelessly for the Democrats and boosted Warnock’s historic achievement.

Warnock defeated Kelly Loeffler.

Loeffler lost African American support due to alleged affiliation with the Ku Klux Klan, a right-wing organisation known for racism against Black people.
