Prince Rogers Nelson: Artist
Prince Rogers Nelson was born on the 7th of June in the city of Minneapolis, Minnesota in the USA. He was the child of Mattie and John L. Nelson.
Both of Prince’s parents were musicians in their own right. From a young age, he was exposed to their art and the world of performance and sound. His mother was a vocalist and his father – a pianist.
Prince released his first album For You in 1978. He went on to release 39 studio albums.
It is hard to describe Prince’s sound or to allocate his music to a single genre. Undoubtedly, he is funky, can rock and has mixed many styles of music through his career.
Prince’s commercial peak was around 1984-85 during the Purple Rain era.
Unprecedently, Prince had a hit record, movie and a concert tour that distinguished him from his peers including Michael Jackson, Madonna and Bruce Springsteen.
Prince’s music, art and career require analysis in academic journals; so extensive is his catalogue.
He was a champion for artists’ rights and is respected by many who came after him.
